Biography: Alexey Shipenko born 1961 in Stavropol (Russia), grown up in Sevastopol/ Crimea. Studied in Moscow, lives in Berlin as a writer, actor, director and musician since 1990. 1979-83 studies of dramatic art at the Moscow School of Dramatic Art MCHAT. 1983-85 employments in various theaters (Tallinn, Moscow). 1984 writes his first play, ‘The Observer’ and founds the Moscow rock band ‘theater’, for which he writes and sings. 2 LPs are published. In 1987 he publishes the short film ‘Totem’ at the Institute of Cinematography Moscow. In 1988 he founds the Moscow rock band ’Can Guru’. Also 1988 staging of his play ‘The Observer’, director Anatoly Vassiliev at the School of Dramatic Art in Moscow, the first performance take place at the Berlin Metropol Theater, where Shipenko occurres as an actor and musician. 1990 his stage play ‘Archeological’ is ‘best foreign play’ in the German magazine ‘theater heute’. 1991 in Germany several stage plays from Shipenko are performed. 1991-2002 beside writing Shipenko stage-manages at Akademie Schloss Solitude Stuttgart, at Volksbühne Berlin, at Bremer Theater, Staatstheater Kassel or in the Academy of Arts in Berlin. His stage-plays are performed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Zurich, Luxembourg, France, Great Britain and the United States. As in Germany in Berlin (Volksbühne, Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Baracke of the Deutsches Theater), Nürnberg, Oberhausen, Bonn, Stuttgart and Bremen. 1996 he is lecturer at the Ernst Busch Hochschule Berlin. In 1997 the novel ‘77’ is published by edition Solitude. 1998 he is lecturer at the University of the Arts UDK Berlin (for playwriting). 1998 the novel ‘The Life of Arsenij’ is published by Suhrkamp Verlag.

1999 ‘The Book of Coincidences’ is published by edition Solitude. 1999-2002 director at Deutsches Theater Almaty Kazakhstan, in Bremen, Stuttgart and Berlin. In 2003 he plays at Schauspielhaus Bochum the role of ‘Løvborg’ (beside Dörte Lyssewski and Irm Hermann) at ‘Hedda Gabler’ (directed by Ernst Stötzner) and founds the group ‘Løvborg‘ (Shipenko plays guitar, sings and writes lyrics, CD winter) and the group ‘contemporary household‘. 2003/4 he writes a version of Goethes ‘Wahlverwandtschaften’ for Schauspielhaus Bochum and plays in the same staging (directed by Ernst Stötzner) the role of the Count. 2004-6 he writes the libretto for a co-production of the Schaubühne Berlin, the Basel Theatre and the Mongolian Music Festival 2006 (directed by Thomas Ostermeier) and a screenplay for the multi-award-winning film director Igor Voloshin. Also multiple work as a writer and director for theater Companhia de Teatro de Braga in Portugal.
2005 participation at the screenplay for the Oscar nominated film ,Mongol’ by Sergej Bodrov. 2006-8 he writes the screenplay for ,Mongol 2′ by Sergej Bodrov. 2008 by Shipenko written film ,The Goat‘, directed by I. Voloshin, wins at Kinotavr Russian Film Festival in Sotschi the award in the category Best Short Film. 2011-2013 he writes for the theater collective O-team several plays, as ‘BEES’, first performance Stuttgart, ‘Thanks for everything’, first performance Jena and ‘Kashmir‘, first performance Stuttgart. From 2008-2014 author/ director and artistic consultant of the Companhia de Teatro de Braga in Portugal, where he stages his own plays as well as the plays from other authors. 2008-14 he writes screenplays, e.g. for I. Voloshin and Pjotr Buslow and writes 2010 the short film ,Sunrise/ Sunset’ for the Russian film director Pjotr Buslow and also plays the main role. 2011-13 Alexey Shipenko writes together with A. Migatschev the screenplay for Buslows 2014 shooted movie ,Родина/ motherland’, that had premiere in Moskau in October 2015 2013 Shipenko founds – together with the actor Stipe Erceg the film production company NONDUAL PRODUCTIONS and produced the documentary ‘SEMANA SANTA‘, the film ‘Synchronized’ (starring Stipe Erceg), in 2014 the film ,Globo de Fogo‘ (starring A. Shipenko himself) and in 2015 the film ‘FIDELICHE‘.
